Established in 2017 with the purchase of the historic Bennett property in West Kelowna, BC, Canada, Frind Estate Winery blends agriculture with technological opportunity. Markus Frind’s family has a farming history spanning 500 years, both in Germany and northern BC. After the successful sale of plentyoffish.com, Markus is focusing his efforts on pairing technology with agriculture to produce terroir-driven British Columbia wines of exceptional quality.

The Role

Under the direction of the Chief Winemaker and Assistant Winemaker, the Cellar Master coordinates all winemaking processes from harvest to bottling, ensuring top-notch production standards and equipment upkeep. This hands-on role entails supervising a shift during harvest, optimizing cellar workflow, maintaining equipment sanitation, and conducting basic equipment maintenance, necessitating in-depth familiarity with all crush pad, cellar and packaging machinery.

This role will primarily work out of our winery, 3725 Boucherie Road, West Kelowna, BC, Canada, with occasional travel to our Osoyoos warehouse.

Responsibilities

*Responsible for the day-to-day operations in the winery. Supervise (as necessary) and performs all cellar and harvest tasks including rackings, transfers, barrel work, additions, blending, fining and filtering.
*Supervise the packaging end of production, the bottling end as required and the disgorging line.
*Ability to oversee a harvest shift, including receiving grapes, pressing, destemming/crushing and equipment maintenance.
*Responsible for the general maintenance, sanitation and cleanliness of the cellar and all equipment.
*Proficient on all equipment including (but not limited to) optical sorters, density sorters, flash detente, HL2, Persio, Resoul, Oenodia (X-Flow, E.D., pH), VLS high solids cross flow, RO and bottling/packaging/disgorging equipment.
*Assist in the training of cellar and harvest staff.
*Champion safe cellar practices and the company Health & Safety program.
*Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

*Minimum of 5 years of related experience. A diploma in winemaking or similar field is required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
*A knowledge and desire to work with various types of equipment.
*A strong emphasis on safety, quality and efficiency.
*Hands on and self-motivated.
*Strong communication skills. Excellent English written and verbal skills.
*Ability to organize and prioritize as necessary.
*Ability to work independently and as a team member.
*Open minded and willingness to try new things.
*Ability to work various shifts during harvest.
*Must be able to lift 50lbs+, stand for long periods of time and work long hours when necessary.
