We are looking to add to our small team at Nicolas-Jay! We are an ultra-premium small winery in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. Nicolas-Jay is the story of a three-decade friendship between famed Burgundian winemaker Jean-Nicolas Meo and visionary music entrepreneur Jay Boberg, and their shared love of Oregon Pinot Noir.
We produce small-lot Pinot Noir and Chardonnay under the winemaking direction of Jean-Nicolas Méo of Domaine Méo-Camuzet in Burgundy’s famed Côte de Nuits. Our current vintage wines all have 94+ point ratings and offer several wines only available DTC that sell out every vintage.
Our by-appointment only experience requires knowledge of Oregon and the Willamette Valley, as well as Burgundy. Experience in winery DTC and a top tier hospitality background is a plus, with a passion for pinot noir and chardonnay, but ultimately, we are looking for a genuine sense of hospitality.
Job Description & Essential Duties:
• Greet all visitors and strive to create a warm, welcoming and memorable experience
• Lead guests through wine tasting flights – educating them about Nicolas-Jay’s story, wines, and people while providing exceptional hospitality and maintaining standards of service at the highest level
• Effectively suggest and sell wine, including Wine Club Memberships
• Build and strengthen relationships with our wine club members during their tasting room visits and assist with wine club events, including pick-up parties and special events
• Web, phone, and tasting room sales fulfillment, management, order processing, communication with consumers
• Perform all daily Tasting Room operations and ensure that opening and closing checklists are completed
• Ensure all areas of tasting room are clean, stocked and welcoming at all times
• Maintain clean and organized guest spaces at all times
• Respond to emails and voicemails in a timely manner
• Assist in stocking, packaging & shipping wine orders
• Gain proficiency in all relevant software including Commerce 7 and Tock
• Assist with twice-yearly wine club shipments including packing, shipping and assisting with client pick-ups. Also, handling upgrades, credit card declines, etc.
• Solve client service issues as they arise with graciousness
• Represent Nicolas-Jay at occasional evening events, vineyard tours and outside events
• Quickly recognize the signs that a guest should not be served alcohol and take appropriate action to professionally address the situation.
Qualifications and Requirements
• Experience in FOH Restaurant or Winery Tasting Room
• Professional appearance and demeanor
• Weekend availability is required as well as some evening events and holidays
• Versatility and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
• Verbal and written communication skills
• Previous experience with Commerce7 and TOCK or other similar applications
• Knowledge of wine and familiarity with Willamette Valley and Burgundy wines and regions
• OLCC license or ability to obtain in the first working month
• Able to bend, squat, and stand for long periods of time
• Able to lift 50 lbs and perform regular strenuous work
• Attention to detail and ability to follow through with assignments and projects
• Wine certification through WSET or the Court a plus
