Lab Enological Technician

Job Description:

Enartis USA, Inc. is currently recruiting for a Lab Enological Technician is responsible for accurate, general analysis of alcoholic beverages, grapes, grape products, incoming wine-based materials and/or other related materials. This position works out of the enological laboratory, which is a support lab for Enartis. The enological laboratory provides analysis and services as necessary to support product sales and to help customers at any stage of the winemaking process.

This role is supervised by the Laboratory Manager and works closely with the Lead Enological Technician in executing fining trials, basic chemical analysis, and other product trials as necessary. In addition, this role also requires instrument troubleshooting, maintenance, and validation with support from the Lead Enological Technician as necessary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Enological Laboratory Testing (80%)
•  Helps with coordination and execution of analytical testing, with special focus on instrumental analysis, including troubleshooting, maintenance, and validation.
•  Ability to set up enological trials.
•  Supports Technical Team with enological knowledge and additional projects/trials.
•  Coordinates the outsourcing of any necessary testing that cannot be done in-house.
•  Helps with work order system and communication of enological laboratory results to appropriate parties.
•  Writes and maintain up-to-date SOPs for analysis methods used in-house.

Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting (10%)
•  Coordinates preventative and routine maintenance procedures as necessary for each instrument installed at the Enartis enological lab.

Innovation (10%)
•  Research emerging technologies and instrumentation and propose implementation on promising or innovative developments.
•  Develops and proposes testing and trials to help broaden knowledge on various products and procedures.

Qualification Requirements:
Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in science related field preferred with 3+ years of lab experience. Proficiency in all levels of wine production. Microbiology lab experience is a plus.

Language and Organizational Skills: Strong communication skills in verbal and written form, with technical writing experience. Able to communicate with tact and diplomacy. Strong team member qualities, enthusiasm, “can-do” attitude, coaching, planning and implementation. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to read and understand measurements. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to vendors, customers, and employees of the organization.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed, involved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Other Skills and Abilities: Proficiency in all aspects of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook). Ability to arrange, manipulate and access information in Word and Excel (or Access). Able to learn new software with ease and efficiency. Exquisite attention to detail.

Physical Demands: Must be at least 21 years of age. Must be able to stand for extended periods of time when necessary. Sufficient body dexterity to bend, stoop, reach and carry boxes of supplies, gas cylinders, equipment and related materials. Able to lift 40 pounds. Able to work extended hours as needed.
