Hi there!
We are looking for a well-versed, curious and passionate wine & spirits professional to make our beloved neighborhood bottle shop even better.
About Wine on Piedmont:
Wine on Piedmont offers a thoughtful selection of wine, beer and spirits, with a focus on small, independent producers for retail, as well as wine by-the-glass at our cozy back bar. As the nation’s first Certified Green Wine & Spirits retailer, we pride ourselves on featuring makers who share our values. Since opening in 2009, we’ve been serving our Piedmont Avenue neighbors and beyond.
We believe that wine should be - above all - accessible and enjoyable, though never dumbed down. Through our friendly and knowledgeable staff, Friday night wine tastings, wine bar, and wine clubs, we strive to keep our community of beverage lovers delighted, informed and coming back for more.
The Role:
We’re seeking a part-time sales associate (12-30 hours or 2-3 shifts a week) starting on or before May 1st, with a potential to grow into a full-time role 6-12 months in the future. While scheduling is flexible, regular Saturday availability is a must.
Responsibilities:
- Offer friendly service and trustworthy product recommendations
- Efficiently ring up sales and manage cash register; fulfill online/phone shipping and delivery orders
- Assist with all other day-to-day operations of the wine shop, including inventory management, merchandising and maintaining a clean, inviting, and well-organized shop (we all mop the floors and break down boxes here)
- Serve tasting bar guests and take turns leading Friday night tastings
- Taste and evaluate potential new products with owner & team (your opinion matters!) in-store and at off-site trade tastings
- Write and update online product descriptions and tastings notes
- Help grow the business by inviting interested customers to sign up for our email list, attend upcoming events or join a wine club
- Scope of responsibilities may increase based on time commitment, interests and strengths
We’re a lean operation, so be prepared to do all the things!
Requirements:
- Passion for and comprehensive knowledge of wine, beer and spirits; eagerness to continue learning
- A proactive attitude and ability to problem solve independently (for your first couple of months you will rarely, if ever, be alone in the shop, so you’ll always have someone to ask for help, but small businesses can be unpredictable)
- Excellent customer service skills
- Some prior related retail or service experience strongly preferred
- Trustworthy; personable; kind
- Good judgment
- Ability to lift, carry and unload a case of wine (~40 lbs)
- Must be available to work during key sales times: the week before Thanksgiving, the week of Hanukkah, and the week before Christmas (we are closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Years Day)
Not Required, but Helpful:
- Affinity for small, artisanal producers
- Good penmanship and/or crafty with a chalk pen
- Copywriting and/or or editorial skills
- A good eye, interior design, photography and/or graphic design skills
- A knack for social media
- Good at troubleshooting and fixing things
- Event planning experience
- Comfortable with Lightspeed POS, Google docs and Apple products
Perks
- Come to work in a great neighborhood
- Generous employee discounts
- Wonderful colleagues and regular customers
- Scheduling flexibility outside of key sales times
- Work closely and collaboratively with ownership
- Paid training and sick days
