Job Reports to: Winemaker
Job Summary:
Continuum Estate is focused on developing an estate based luxury wine from Napa Valley that will be recognized as one of the finest estates and wines in the world. This position provides a key function in the day to day winery operations at the Estate, supporting the Winemaker. We are seeking a meticulous, hardworking, dependable, and highly motivated individual to join our team. This will be a hands-on position consisting of cellar work, lab analysis, vineyard analysis, and general back up and support for the Winemaker.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:
1. Performing laboratory analysis and bench-top trials. Implements testing methods to control quality of analysis.
2. Enters lab analysis and cellar work orders into data tracking system. Retains and organizes records in adherence with legal and regulatory practices. Keeps lab manual up to date.
3. Maintain lab supplies and chemicals within established budget
4. Creating and maintaining a clean and organized work environment
5. Actively participate and provide input with regard to R&D, quality assurance, and improved processes.
6. General data entry and documentation of analysis in Vintrace system.
7. In preparation for bottling, inventories and inspects dry goods. During bottling performs the required analysis/testing and performs bottling line quality control checks.
8. Preparation of technical tastings and participate in wine blending sessions
9. Supporting cellar team in full range of cellar activities from harvest to bottle including: sampling for analysis and blending sessions, topping, racking, fruit processing, additions, fermentation management, pressing, general cellar work during aging and post crush clean up.
10. Supporting the vineyard team in grape and vineyard monitoring and analysis as required throughout the season
11. Put an emphasis on team cooperation and bringing a positive spirit to the cellar.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
No direct full time supervision.
Job Requirements:
Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in enology or related fields. At least 2 years winery experience including lab analysis.
Skills:
• Working knowledge and appreciation of fine wine grape growing
• Commitment to high standards with an acute attention to detail.
• Willingness to take a hands on approach and contribute in all cellar operations as needed.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office and data base software) with strong statistical and analytical abilities.
• Able to adapt to changing priorities and responsibilities without compromising deadlines
• Able to function with minimal supervision while also adhering to a strong team mentality.
• Forklift experience required.
• Working knowledge of data collection, analysis, evaluation and presentation.
• Ability to make decisions and take action when needed, yet have a team mentality.
Physical: Able to travel by car and operate vehicles. Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping. Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time. Grasp, turn, and manipulate objects of varying size and weight, including 60 gallon wine barrels. Move over sloping, uneven, or slippery surfaces. Move up and down ladders, stairs and/or service ramps. Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 60 pounds without assistance. Work with chemicals that require protective equipment. Able to handle a range of temperatures and humidity both indoors and outdoors.
Other: (Includes licenses, certificates, age, etc.) Must have a valid unrestricted California driver’s license. Must be insurable by the company. Flexibility to work additional long hours as needed throughout the year and during harvest and bottling.
