POSITION SUMMARY
Under minimal supervision, the Staff Accountant position applies principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepares financial reports by compiling information, preparing account reconciliations, and utilizing appropriate accounting control procedures. This position also performs the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as well as some inventory and costing duties. This is a regular, full-time exempt position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare journal entries to general ledger accounts and documents business transactions.
• Reviews, reconciles and analyzes all general ledger accounts for accuracy and resolves accounting discrepancies. Manages prepaid and accrual ledger balances to ensure properly recorded.
• Responsible for monthly reconciliation of petty cash and balance sheet accounts.
• Reviews Tasting Room and Wine Club sales for timeliness and accuracy.
• Preparation of bank reconciliations and bank deposits including resolving discrepancies.
• Cash management for Payroll and Accounts Payable expenses; reviews with Controller.
• Active role in month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing procedures, worksheets and reports.
• Provides assistance with financial reporting and budget set-up, as well as ad hoc studies and analysis.
• Involvement in external audits and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, including preparing audit schedules.
• Preparation and filing of property tax statements.
• Preparation of California sales and use tax returns including associated sales and out-of-state account reconciliations.
• Reconciles the TTB 5120.17 Report of Wine Premises Operations and prepares Federal and State Excise Tax forms.
• Interaction with all departments regarding coding of expenses and other financial management needs.
• Assists in creating policies and procedures around the accounting function while supporting the Winery’s safety practices and sustainability initiatives.
• Provides backup to various accounting and winery activities in order to ensure proper coverage in others’ absences.
• Special projects and other responsibilities as assigned.
Accounts Payable
• Maintains accounts payable files and records.
• Processes all invoices for payment, prints and mails checks or ACHs.
• Processes expense account reimbursement. Records credit card expenses in the GL and ensures that statements reconcile with receipts.
• Preparation of I099's.
Inventory
• Prepares inventory reconciliations.
• Reconciles general ledger to Vintrace costing system.
• Prepares wine cased goods monthly costing report and records journal entries.
• Manages Grape contract schedules and reconciles actual tons and dollars by grower to contracted amounts and budgeted amounts.
Accounts Receivable
• Prepares accounts receivable invoices; reconciles customer accounts.
• Prepares invoices for export, bulk wine sales and other revenue items.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field and 5 years relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections.
• Proficient use of Excel, Word Navision, JET, Innovint, Commerce 7 and other wine or accounting based software programs.
• Ability to work independently under minimal supervision and maintain high standards of accuracy with strong attention to detail.
• Promotes and demonstrates an atmosphere of teamwork.
• Good communication skills.
• Wine industry experience preferred.
• Highly organized, accurate, detail and multi-task oriented.
• Ability to complete tasks in an accurate manner within established time constraints.
• Good judgment, versatility, flexibility, and enthusiasm.
• Ability to work with constantly changing priorities
• Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 45 lbs.
