Harvest Intern - Keplinger Wines & Kerr Cellars

Keplinger Wines/Kerr Cellars

Napa, CA

Job Description:

Job Description:
Keplinger Wines is a winemaker-owned small brand making single vineyard Cabernet and Rhone varietals. Kerr Cellars is also a small brand of very high quality focused on Bordeaux varietals, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay. These wines are terroir driven, made using low-tech methods and a lot of TLC. This internship is a great opportunity to work with a very small team crafting soulful, single vineyard, boutique wines. These wines are made with great attention to detail in the vineyards, and care in the cellar, native fermentations, low sulfur aging, no fining or filtration. The vineyards range from Sonoma and Napa to the Sierra Foothills; the varietals run the spectrum - Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux varietals, and Rhone varietals. As the intern, you would work directly with Winemaker Helen Keplinger, Keplinger Cellar Master Andrew Keene, and Kerr Assistant Winemaker Casey Byrne and be involved in every aspect of harvest from the vineyard to the barrel. This is a very dynamic position with a small, dedicated, team.

We are seeking an energetic, passionate individual with a great desire to learn, work hard, and be a valued part of making our 2025 vintage wines. Experience isn't necessary with a great attitude, aptitude, and desire to work carefully to make the best possible wines.

Responsibilities will include:
- Sampling grapes in the vineyard
- Maturity panels
- Preparing for harvest
- Daily equipment cleaning & sanitation
- Berry sorting fruit to fermentation vessels
- Fermentation management including pumpovers, punchdowns
- Monitoring white fermentations in barrel
- Daily brix and temp checks
- Draining fermentation tanks to tank
- Pressing to barrel
- Pressing white grapes
- Barrel prep and maintenance
- Topping barrels
- Malolactic fermentations
- Near fills of white barrels
- Updating barrel and keg inventories

You will need to have a reliable car and be able to work longer hours during the peak of harvest. We welcome your great attitude, motivation, punctuality, and pride in your work. This position will begin mostly in the vineyard early August, and depending on the season, will likely conclude in late November to mid December.
