Head Vineyard Shop Mechanic

Job Description:

Job Summary
This position is responsible for the preventative maintenance and repair of vineyard vehicles and machinery, as well as managing vineyard shop operations, inventory, and safety by performing the following duties.
Essential Job Duties
•  Conducts regular maintenance and repairs on all vineyard vehicles and machinery, including tractors, harvesters, sprayers, cultivation equipment, heavy machinery & vehicles, irrigation systems, and other specialized equipment.
•  Diagnoses mechanical problems, troubleshoot, and complete repairs in a timely manner to ensure smooth vineyard operations.
•  Ensures all equipment is calibrated and set up for peak performance, particularly during harvest and peak operational periods.
•  Maintains an organized inventory of spare parts, tools, and supplies necessary for equipment repair and maintenance.
•  Oversees the daily operations of the vineyard shop, including scheduling repairs, assigning tasks, and managing repair work.
•  Ensures the workshop is organized, clean, and properly stocked with tools and parts.
•  Maintains and enforces safety protocols within the shop, ensuring all staff use the necessary protective gear and adhere to safe working practices.
•  Develops and implement preventative maintenance schedules to ensure equipment longevity and reduce emergency repairs.
•  Assigns and oversees daily tasks for vineyard shop staff, ensuring work is distributed efficiently and completed according to priority and schedule.
•  Coordinates repair schedules to align with vineyard operations, ensuring critical equipment is serviced during off-peak times to maintain productivity during harvest and other busy periods.
•  Participates in regular training sessions for staff on equipment operation, maintenance best practices, and vineyard-specific machinery to enhance technical skills and safety awareness.
•  Manages emergency repair situations, organizing resources and staff to respond quickly to breakdowns during critical operational periods, such as harvest.
•  Develops and enforces standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all mechanical maintenance and repair activities, ensuring consistency and quality across the team.
•  Tracks and reports maintenance KPIs, including repair times, equipment uptime, and cost metrics, providing regular updates to vineyard management.
•  Participates in strategic planning for vineyard operations by providing technical input on present and future equipment needs, innovations, and potential efficiencies.
•  Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly supervises employees and carries out supervisory responsibilities following the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education & Experience
A bachelor’s degree or similar degree in Automotive & Diesel Technology is required for this role. In addition to the education requirement, this position requires 10 years related experience. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be used to satisfy these requirements.

Certificates, Licenses, and/or Registrations
This position requires a valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and automobile liability coverage or access to an insured vehicle.
This position requires an Accredited Diesel Service Technology and Automotive certification in Maintenance and Repair.
