Position Summary

As part of our winemaking team, the Cellar Lead in coordination with the Production Manager/ Winemaker is responsible for performing and directing all table, sparkling and dessert wine cellar and crush operations. This person hires and leads all cellar personnel. They serve as a shift lead for crush operations at harvest. They are responsible for cellar, crush, and supporting equipment operation, maintenance and efficiency. Duties include daily responsibilities and accountability for effective, efficient and accurate production operations in accordance with company SOP’s, maximizing labor resources, proper sanitation, timely equipment issue resolution, productivity standards, staff training and performance, accurate and timely recordkeeping, safety and brand image. Through long and short term planning they ensure operations meet production and labor efficiency, on time supply procurement, quality control and safety goals. They are responsible for maintaining and improving production productivity standards. They ensure that the department is well run and effective in developing team and individual resources.

•  Timely and proficiently ensures all aspects of cellar work
•  Organizes and maintains cellar records for all barrel and wine transactions
•  Orders and maintains all cellar supplies
•  Works closely with Winemaker to ensure proper quality
•  Directs the work of the cellar crew in all activities
•  Ensures safety training, protocols and practices at all times
•  Responsible for the training, motivation and development of cellar crew
•  Provides effective leadership and supervision
•  Monitors performance and communicates with management
•  Timely and accurate reporting and documentation
•  Operation and maintenance of cellar and harvest equipment
•  Assist where required during busy harvest season; working extended periods of time as required which can be numerous consecutive days
•  Must be flexible in work assignments

Qualifications:
•  Minimum of 5+ years related experience
•  Knowledge of wines and wine production
•  Demonstrated skills in compiling, analysis and reporting
•  Proficiency in computer skills in programs such as Microsoft Office
•  Proficient competence in all subordinates duties and tasks
•  Proficient competence in cellar protocols and procedures
•  Strong problem-solving and continuous improvement focus
•  Ability to step into any position whenever needed
•  Effective execution and project management skills
•  Ability to understand and set priorities, workflow and deadlines
•  Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
•  Demonstrated ability to make sound judgments and good decisions timely
•  Ability to work effectively independently or in teams
•  Demonstrated ability to perform basic mathematics and calculate figures

Physical/environmental requirements:
•  Ability to work in a varied temperature environment from cold to hot
•  Ability to work within a noise level that can be consistently moderate to loud at times
•  Ability to work with hazardous chemicals
•  Ability to work extended hours consecutive days during heavy production periods
•  Ability to repeatedly lift 50 lbs.
•  Ability to safely operate a forklift
•  Ability to work at a computer station and operation of office equipment
•  Ability to understand and operate all facility equipment
•  Ability to work on your feet for long periods of time, on concrete, walking distances, up and down stairs/ ladders or standing in place
