Our dynamic team at Duckhorn Vineyards is looking for a Laboratory Technician I to join the flock. The Laboratory Technician I is responsible for performing all laboratory duties as assigned by the Laboratory Manager or Supervisor, and will assist with laboratory organization, cleanliness, and communication in all phases of the wine production process. The Lab Technician will be part of a unified wine production team.
What we will ask you to do:
• Perform daily analysis in a timely manner: routine analyses which includes sulfur, TA/pH, alcohol, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, and enzymatics (RS, ML, VA, YAN).
• Assist with wine monitoring throughout the aging process by sampling barrels and tanks cleanly and according to appropriate SOPs.
• Prepare and standardizes lab solutions and maintains chemicals.
• Perform daily lab instruments startup and shutdown, including updating daily records of equipment calibration and standardization.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment and a clean break area, use appropriate personal protective equipment, and report any equipment problems to supervisor or manager immediately.
• Input timely and accurate data entry and communicates analysis into good lab logbooks, Excel spreadsheets, and NAV database.
• Sample wine inventory for winemaker tasting and for blending; create lab blends for bottling blend trials.
• Demonstrate dependability, initiative, and interpersonal skills and adapt rapidly to change.
What you will need:
• Basic lab skills; College degree in Chemistry, Enology or QC lab experience.
• Good communication skills – written and verbal.
• Detail oriented: ability to recognize numbers outside of tolerance, raise red flags, and ask questions.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, experience with Microsoft Navision a plus.
• Analytical math skills required.
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
• Must be a team player.
• Ability to stand for long periods of time.
