Uncorking Colour Trends: The Global Shift in Wine Preferences
by Vinexpo Paris
PARIS, (Feb. 14, 2024) - Today at Wine Paris & Vinexpo Paris 2024 the OIV held a press conference on its latest statistical Focus: the “Evolution of World Wine Production and Consumption by colour”.
The conference was led by John Barker, the OIV's new Director General, and Giorgio Delgrosso, the OIV Head of the Statistics and Digital Transformation Department.
The OIV focus, prepared by the OIV Statistics Department, provides an overview of the evolution of the world wine production and consumption by colour over the 2000-2021 period.
Over these past decades, the world wine sector has seen an overall positive trend of production and consumption of white and rosé wines, while red wines have decreased. This structural shift can be mainly attributed to overall changes in consumer preferences. This report aims to better understand this phenomenon by providing an overview of the evolution of production and consumption of wine broken down by red, white and rosé.
